Welcome to the DIVE JOURNAL: Cooper Island Adventure - September 2004
The Destination: Cooper Island in the British Virgin Islands The Base Camp: Cooper Island Beach Club Special thanks to Liz, Damien, Curt, Chris, & Toby The Crew: Kathy & Sieg The Dive Crew: Sail Caribbean Divers Special thanks to the incredible staff of Sail Caribbean Divers for making this a great trip: Melissa, Peter, Cindy, Mike I., Sam, Pip, Dawn, Kirk & Christy! The Experience: The plan called for a very low key week at Cooper Island Beach Club with an emphasis on R&R!! Our stay was a wonderful experience, and the food and service at the Beach Club was excellent as always. It was really great to reconnect and spend time with all our good friends at Sail Caribbean Divers & CIBC. Mike & Melisande were actually back in England enjoying a little R&R themselves during the time that we were on island. Hurricane Jeanne delayed our departure by one day, but overall, the weather gods smiled on us for the week. The absolute high point for the trip was Kathy completing her long awaited Open Water Certification. She not only completed her Open Water dives with great style, but she also logged a total of 14 dives during our stay and completed her Deep Diver Specialty! The other big event for the week was finally having the opportunity to dive the wreck of the Chikuzen (a 246 foot refrigerator vessel that lies 7 1/2 miles northwest of Tortola & west of Anegada). All I can say is that it was well worth the wait. We were treated to an eagle ray parade that made so many passes over the wreck that I actually lost count. For those of you who know Kathy as the "Snorkel Diva", you can rest assured that she has not traded-in her snorkel for SCUBA. She is totally hooked on both, and took me on more than one of her famous 2-hour snorkel tours after the days diving was done. Way to go Kathy!!! The Photo Gallery:
